Golden Triangle Tour from Delhi: Complete 5-Day Itinerary & Budget Guide 2026

May 26, 2026

If someone asks you “where do I start with India?” — the answer is almost always the Golden Triangle. Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Three cities, five days, and honestly one of the best travel experiences you’ll find anywhere in the world. It’s called the Golden Triangle tour India travellers have been doing for decades — and it’s still the most popular circuit in the country for a reason.

Whether you’re visiting India for the first time or bringing family from abroad, this route covers everything: Mughal history, royal palaces, street food, wildlife, and the Taj Mahal. All connected by smooth highways, with manageable drive times between each stop.

At 9ice India Travels, we run this circuit regularly — and we’ve put together this guide so you know exactly what to expect, day by day.

Day-by-Day Golden Triangle Itinerary

Day 1 — Delhi

Start where most journeys begin. Delhi is chaotic, colourful, and completely absorbing — and one day is just enough to get a feel for it before you move on.

Hit Qutub Minar in the morning when it’s less crowded. The 73-metre tower is genuinely stunning up close. Then head to India Gate for a midday stroll and a quick bite from the nearby stalls. Finish the afternoon at Red Fort — walk the ramparts, soak in the Mughal architecture, and grab some chaat from Chandni Chowk on your way back.

If you’re flying into IGI Airport and staying in Mahipalpur, you’re already perfectly positioned — central Delhi is just 20–25 minutes away.

Day 2 — Delhi to Agra (230 km)

Leave early — ideally by 6 AM — and you’ll be in Agra in under 4 hours via the Yamuna Expressway. This is one of the smoothest highways in India, so the drive itself is pleasant.

Your first stop: the Taj Mahal. Check the Archaeological Survey of India for entry timings and ticket prices before you go. Go before 10 AM to beat the crowds and the heat. Nothing really prepares you for seeing it in person — photos don’t do it justice. After the Taj, head to Agra Fort (about 15 minutes away), which most people underestimate. It’s enormous and packed with history. If you have time, a quick detour to Fatehpur Sikri (40 km out) is absolutely worth it — a ghost city frozen in the 1500s.

Overnight in Agra.

Day 3 — Agra to Jaipur (240 km)

This drive takes about 4 to 5 hours, and there’s a great stop along the way — Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. If you’re visiting between October and March, you’ll see thousands of migratory birds from Siberia and Central Asia. Even if you’re not a birder, it’s a beautiful, peaceful place — completely different from the cities on this circuit.

Arrive in Jaipur by afternoon, check in, and do a slow evening walk around the old city. The Pink City at dusk is something else.

Day 4 — Jaipur

Full day in Jaipur, and you’ll need every hour of it. Start at Amber Fort — take the road up (or an elephant ride if you’re feeling adventurous) and spend at least 90 minutes exploring. Then Hawa Mahal for photos, followed by City Palace which is still partly home to the royal family. End the day at Jantar Mantar, the open-air observatory that looks like modern art but dates back to the 1700s.

Jaipur’s food scene is also genuinely great — try dal baati churma and ghewar before you leave.

Day 5 — Jaipur to Delhi (280 km)

The drive back is about 5 hours on NH48. Before you leave Jaipur, squeeze in some shopping at Bapu Bazaar — block-print fabric, blue pottery, and silver jewellery are the things to pick up. Don’t buy from shops near the monuments; prices are much better in the market.

You’ll be back in Delhi by early evening, in time for a flight or a final dinner.

How to Travel the Golden Triangle Tour India from Delhi

You can do this circuit by train, but honestly — by road is better. Here’s why.

Trains are fixed to schedules, and the connections between Agra and Jaipur aren’t always convenient. By road, you leave when you want, stop where you want (hello, Bharatpur), and carry all your luggage without hauling it across platforms.

For couples or small groups of 2 to 4 people, an Innova Crysta is the ideal vehicle — comfortable, spacious for luggage, air-conditioned, and easy to park at all the monuments. For larger groups of 8 to 16, a Tempo Traveller keeps everyone together and actually works out cheaper per head.

For a delhi agra jaipur tour, the total road distance is roughly 750 km across 5 days — very manageable with an experienced driver who knows the roads.

Golden Triangle Tour India Budget Breakdown

Here’s an approximate per-person cost range depending on how you like to travel:

Note: Taj Mahal entry for foreign nationals is ₹1,300. For Indian citizens it’s ₹50. Budget accordingly.

Best Time for Golden Triangle Tour India

October to March is the sweet spot. Weather is cool, skies are clear, and everything is open. December and January get a bit cold at night (Jaipur especially), so carry a light jacket.

April to June gets hot — very hot. Agra in May can cross 45°C, which makes outdoor sightseeing genuinely uncomfortable. Not impossible, but you’ll be miserable by noon.

July to September (Monsoon) is actually an underrated option. Crowds thin out dramatically, prices drop, and the landscape around Jaipur looks stunning after rain. Just be aware that the Taj Mahal sometimes closes during heavy fog in winter (December–January mornings), so check before you go.

For a golden triangle tour India from delhi, October, November, February, and March are the three months most of our customers choose — and they’re rarely disappointed.
